Lest I Forget

notes from a midlife muser - grabbing those thoughts before they turn to memory mush

Destination vacation

No, I'm not getting all USA on you but ‘holiday’ didn't rhyme.
Got the travel bug though as we spent last night on expedia to plan the new Yawk trip and this morning reading the Time Out guide we bought at Smiths in town yesterday (hard to visualize a city like NY on a wet grey Saturday in Huddersfield town centre!).

To add to the travel fest, Lian thinks she'll be going to Poland with college to tour Grease (yes really) and Joe came back from a weekend with Scouts and said he may get to go to Peru in 18 months as part of a Duke of Edinburgh award. Cool.

And I caught up tonight with Si's Mexico/USA/NZ blog... very witty Mr Dickinson :-)
Have a read:

Got to go - off on more travels - picking up Lian from The Wharf tavern in town, where she has been washing dishes for the last 7 hours :-(

Mark Fest

Got in tonight from Joe's parents evening - they all love him and his sometimes unfocussed but obvious intelligence and his warm wit - and found that Mark Kelly from Marillion had got in touch (hello Mark). I got so giddy I've only bloody ordered their latest album off Amazon!
And a guy in the states was trying to track down an old close friend via the site.. I have some details on the 'that Mark Kelly' page that seem to match his old friend. Anyway - it was the right MK and both are now back in touch.
Kewl!! That's made my hours of badly constructed DIY HTML all worthwhile :-)

This is a moan

The tsunami disaster ... I feel compelled to moan about corporate responses to said disaster. Okay, maybe not their literal response, more a feeling of defiant uncomfortableness with any prescriptive, corporate - possibly mawkish - dictat to stay silent for 3 minutes in collective grief-sharing and reflection. I don't want to be told when to grieve, to have it parceled up with others in my office.. I didn't keep quiet, I clicked my keyboard in the process of donating again to Oxfam.. not a 'look at me, I'm donating' stance but a reaction to staged shows of reflection.
